AVG Bug Crashes Computer

Just as a head's up to people. The new AVG update is bugged. Some clan members have had to work around several bugs that have nearly caused a reformat. I uninstalled mine, reinstalled, and mine works fine, even with the update. It may be an issue with the updater itself. But until the problem is completely resolved, I do not recommend anyone updates their AVG.

Shame too, I have had 6 years of wonderful service with them without a hitch. More than I can say for McAfee and Norton.

Any comments? Hints? More warnings? Please post them.

I use Avira Antivir so I'm in the clear. I like Antivir because I can disable active scans while I'm gaming.

Although I was unaffected by the bug, I called the technical support, because it is free now, and gathered some information.

1.) The bugged update was up for a week before the bug was discovered, meaning the affected people could not contact AVG to make sure the software developer was aware of the problem.

2.) It is gone now, and I just updated AVG and I have windows 7 64-bit, not a single problem.

3.) Technical support calls are free now, so take down their number and they will walk you through the processes to fix a crash if it occurs.

Essentially, the problem was that AVG recognized a vital Windows program as a threat, isolated it, then killed it. This created an infinite crash loop, as Windows would try to restart, and then crash, over and over.

Did Safe Mode still work? Or you could repair Windows if you had this happen; only fools reformat.
